General Internal Medicine Specialist

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is looking for a General Internal Medicine Specialist.

CMH is undergoing an exciting Capital Redevelopment Project with anticipated significant expansion of services over the next few years.

The current Internal Medicine Department are a dynamic group of 14 Internal Medicine Specialists seeking to our team in the Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine. The Department Medicine Service currently includes 2 Cardiologists, 2 Gastroenterologists, 3 Respirologists, 6 General Internists, and 2 full time Intensivists.

The Cambridge Memorial Hospital facilities include a Bronchoscopy/Endoscopy Suite and Cardiopulmonary Lab.  There is a very active ICU/CCU/Stepdown (9 beds) with a telemetry capacity of an additional 8 patients and a Hospitalist program (combination of Internal Medicine Specialists and Family Physicians with Hospitalist training) for ongoing inpatient care. There is 24 hour access to Respiratory Therapists with arterial line and intubation skills.  There is a COPD Clinic on site and access to Regional Cystic Fibrosis Clinic, Tuberculosis Clinic, inpatient and outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program.

With service expansion, CMH is in the process of implementing changes to our inpatient ICU/CCU/Stepdown/Telemetry services, as well as inpatient Medicine program. This will include initiating an ambulatory Internal Medicine Clinic as well as a Pre-operative Clinic in conjunction with the Department of Anesthesia. With full implementation of the changes to the Medical Program, we are looking for an additional General Internal Medicine Specialists to join our core group of General Internists.

Successful candidates will provide primarily Admissionist/Consultative inpatient services, as well as ambulatory pre-operative clinics. There may be a number of clinical opportunities in the community for general internists that could be explored as well. Applicants must be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and have an independent practice license or eligible for same.  Certification or eligibility for certification in General Internal Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons is also required.

On call requirements will include coverage of all new ICU/CCU/Stepdown/Telemetry as well as general medical admissions to the Medical Wards. Skills in intubation, central lines, and minor procedures are essential. Expertise on ultrasound guided procedures would be an asset. On call requirements will be 4-5/month.

Remuneration will be highly competitive.

Candidates must have specialty certification in Internal Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, license to practice medicine in Ontario and be comfortable with intensive care medicine including acute respiratory/cardiology care and general consultative medicine.
