Unity Health Toronto, St Joseph’s Health Centre site in Toronto is inviting applications for an Active Staff full-time position in the Division of Ophthalmology.  St. Joseph’s is a fully accredited community teaching hospital within the Unity Health Toronto network, serving Toronto’s west-end.  

St. Joseph’s provides care to a culturally and economically diverse population of about 530,000. Our hospital is a 400-bed facility that employs approximately 2,500 staff, along with 500 credentialed staff physicians. The ideal candidate will have an interest in education, clinical research, leadership, and/or quality improvement. The Health Centre has a commitment to developing an Eye Centre for cataract surgery on the hospital premises and the successful candidate will also have access to the main Operating Room for more complex cases. The candidate will join a team of 7 other ophthalmologists. The on-call requirement will be one in eight with a commitment to the outpatient clinic and ROP assessments in the NICU. Ideally the candidate will make a commitment to service the patients residing in the catchment of the health centre.

The candidate must possess exemplary clinical skills and professionalism, with evidence of excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.  The candidate will be required to support the Division of Ophthalmology with teaching commitments and will regularly be involved in the teaching of medical students and residents.

The successful candidate must be proficient in English and be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor.   Certification in Ophthalmology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is a requirement.  Candidates must have Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage or equivalent in good standing.

Compensation will be by OHIP billings and by on-call stipend.

The anticipated start date is July 1st, 2022, or as mutually agreed upon.
