Career Opportunity in Anaesthesia

William Osler Health System (Osler), located 40 minutes from downtown Toronto and 20 minutes from Pearson International Airport, is a multi-site hospital system serving 1.3 million people in one of the fastest growing and most culturally diverse regions in Ontario.  Awarded Canada’s Best Diversity Employer award for the 9th straight year; the first hospital to reach this milestone in Canada, a member of the Schwartz Centre for Compassionate Healthcare, and recently achieving Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada, we are committed to bringing patient-centred health care to the forefront, using innovation, compassion, and a safety-first mindset in our delivery of care.  Osler invites you to answer the call to make a difference.  Learn more about who we are and how we are going beyond for healthier communities.

The Department of Anaesthesia is seeking Full Time and Part time Anaesthetists.

The department provides services to a total of 25 ORs, 4 delivery suites, up to 8 endoscopy rooms, pre-assessment clinics, and the acute pain service. Future growth plans include the expansion of services both in and out of the OR suites and involvement in chronic pain management. We are recruiting anaesthesiologists to work across all three Osler sites. Subspecialty fellowship training is an additional asset but not a requirement. Successful candidates would be required to participate in the full range of community anaesthesia both in and out of the OR and participate in the obstetric and general call schedules.  The position requires excellent communication skills in English.  Additional languages are considered an asset as we serve a highly diverse population.  Remuneration is fee-for-service as set by the OHIP Schedule of Benefits and Fees.

Osler is an affiliated academic community teaching site for the McMaster University Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine: Family Medicine program.  It also provides clinical elective opportunities to Canadian undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.  The preferred candidate would have the option to participate in teaching and seek an academic appointment with either the University of Toronto or McMaster University. With the government's recent announcement of a new medical school in Brampton, Osler also looks forward to becoming an academic health centre in partnership with the Toronto Metropolitan University

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to join one of the fastest growing community hospitals offering innovative research opportunities, access to cutting edge technology, and support from one of Ontario’s leading physician wellness programs.  The candidate must have a certificate of registration to practise from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and have fellowship in Anaesthesiology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.  Family Physicians with a certificate of added competence in Family Practice Anaesthesia from the College of Family Physicians of Canada may also be considered.
