Pediatric Cardiologist

PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGIST

DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS,

WINDSOR REGIONAL HOSPITAL

The Department of Pediatrics at Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) invites applications for a full-time pediatric cardiologist to join a dedicated multidisciplinary team of general pediatricians, subspecialists, nurses, and allied health professionals.

The Department of Pediatrics at WRH includes a 16-bed Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), and a 22-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, providing comprehensive service to a population of about 400,000 in Windsor and Essex County of South Western Ontario (SWO). The CTU provides acute care for children with a wide variety of general pediatric conditions, including admissions locally from the Emergency Department, and transfers from other hospitals within the region. The Level 2C NICU provides care to babies over the gestational age of 26 weeks and sees around 500 NICU admissions from over 3800 in-hospital deliveries every year, the second-largest in SWO.

We also offer a range of ambulatory subspecialty clinics including a regular cardiology clinic supported by the division of pediatric cardiology at London Health Sciences (LHSC) who also report over 800 ECHOs per year performed locally at Windsor. However, children needing pediatric intensive care, and general and cardiac surgery services are referred to regional tertiary children’s hospitals in London or Toronto.

Windsor is also the site for one of the two campuses of the MD program (38 students/year) and also a CTU of the Pediatric Residency program of Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry (SSMD), Western University (www.schulich.uwo.ca).  Academic affiliations and appointments are available through the Department of Pediatrics of SSMD, Western. Candidates who have demonstrated an academic track record and who wish to pursue an academic pathway are encouraged to explore these possibilities.

In recognition of the growing needs of the region, the Department of Pediatrics is part of the plans for a major reform of the Windsor-Essex Hospitals System that includes construction of a state-of-the-art acute care hospital by the end of this decade (https://www.wrh.on.ca/AbouttheProject).

About Windsor and Essex County

The Windsor-Essex area (http://www.welcometowindsoressex.ca) is ecologically rich with extensive parkland along with a southwest location that extends warm-weather activities such as golfing, gardening, and water sports. Windsor offers the unique opportunities of a larger metropolitan area and the benefits of a smaller community. Living directly across the border from Detroit, Michigan places you on a cosmopolitan stage where arts, culture, big-league sports, and entertainment are just moments away. Best of all, you can enjoy access to all of these big-city advantages while living in the relative tranquility (and low costs) of a much smaller, friendlier community.
