Clinical Academic Position – Neurologist (Multiple Sclerosis)

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a full-time Neurologist with expertise in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Teacher or Clinician Researcher at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor/MD in a limited term (Clinical Academic) appointment or at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in a continuing (Clinical Academic) appointment, depending on qualifications and experience.

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences is comprised of 36 Neurologists and 12 Neurosurgeons and is the single tertiary referral centre for Southwestern Ontario. The Department provides secondary, tertiary and quaternary services to a patient population of 1.8 million, but its referral base extends beyond the region to include areas in northern Ontario and a significant portion from the Niagara region – increasing this referral base to 3.5 million. London is the Regional Stroke Center for Southwestern Ontario and has a busy acute stroke and endovascular thrombectomy service.


The successful candidate is expected to be a contributing member of the MS Program. Candidates will have completed at least one year of fellowship training in MS (or equivalent subspecialty training) and/or a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in the management of MS patients in an academic environment in North America. In addition to subspecialty practice in movement disorders, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in on call activities and teaching for the general neurology CTU and stroke neurology CTU, including night time and weekend coverage.


Candidates interested in a Clinician Researcher position will have a record of proven ability for research and will be expected to collaborate with other colleagues specialized in Multiple Sclerosis, within the Department, and to generate national and international research collaborations. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a Master’s degree or PhD. Candidates interested in a Clinician Teacher position will have a proven record of excellence in medical education and will be expected to develop an education-oriented career. Preference will be given to candidates with formal training in adult education theories, curriculum design, learner assessment, and/or evaluation of program outcomes.


Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.
