The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is seeking a contingent Geographic Full Time (GFT) Obstetrician/Gynecologist who will provide relevant clinical service and also lead the inpatient/outpatient Gynecology Clinical Teaching Service. This academic service functions to provide medical students, as well as gynecology and family medicine trainees with inpatient, outpatient and consultative opportunities to acquire gynecologic knowledge and skills.
The successful candidate will be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor (or higher depending on current academic rank) in the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, Max Rady College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Job Description

General Obstetrics and Gynecology Practice (0.65 EFT):

• Clinical responsibilities include acting as a consultant obstetrician/gynecologist based at HSC Women’s Hospital. A major requirement will be the care of women with general gynecologic issues.
• The successful candidate must have comprehensive gynecological skills with additional competencies relevant to the care of women living in the core area of our city (e.g. awareness of and ability to practice trauma-informed care and culturally safe care).
• Consultation clinics to be designed to support trainees acquire hands on gynecologic skills. We are particularly interested in candidates who are prepared to be highly engaged gynecologic clinical teachers to medical students, physician assistant students and resident trainees, particularly those preparing for family practice in rural settings.
• Interest in clinical obstetrics is welcome, particularly for candidates with interest in multidisciplinary obstetrical care in collaboration with our midwifery team.
• Participation in the on-call gynecology schedule at HSC is essential.

Gynecology Clinical Teaching Service Lead:

• Academic responsibilities central to this job and we offer up to 30% protected time dedicated to clinical teaching medical trainees in the classroom, at rounds, in the ambulatory-care setting, inpatient setting and in the operating theatre. Expectations would include:
• Frequent teaching rounds with the junior house staff on the service
• Orientation of the junior house staff at the outset of their rotation
• Mentorship of the Clinical Assistants and Physician Assistants supporting the service
• Provision of feedback and real-time assessments following clinical encounters
• Successful candidates will be strong clinical teachers and, ultimately, mentorship of colleagues in the area of clinical teaching will be expected. The successful candidate will support a work and learning environment that embraces the College of Medicine’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policies, providing for the equality and reflecting the dignity of all people.
• Effective administrative skills are required and 5% protected time is available for the administrative responsibilities related to this role (e.g. meetings with nursing staff and postgraduate education leadership). Expectations would include:
• Regular communication with the charge nurses and unit managers
• Willingness to troubleshoot procedures and protocols related to the functioning of the service
• Preparation of periodic reports for the HSC Site Lead and presentation at site meetings
• Leadership and innovation will be important components of this role. Qualifications:

• Current or eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba specialist registry as a generalist Obstetrician Gynecologist
• Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Canadian citizenship or permanent residency
• Eligibility for hospital privileges within Shared Health
• Eligibility for a University of Manitoba teaching appointment
