The Department of Psychiatry (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/psychiatry/) is organized around four academic Divisions including General Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry, as well as recognized Programs in Neuropsychiatry and Developmental Disabilities. Our Divisions and Programs provide an academic home for approximately 80 clinical academics and 6 basic scientists and support education, training and research in each of these areas.

We are seeking an academic psychiatrist to work with our Forensic Psychiatry Program at St. Joseph’s. Opportunities for duties in assessment, treatment and rehabilitation and outreach areas exist and can be negotiated. The successful candidate will be actively involved with the education of medical students, general psychiatry residents, and subspecialty residents. The candidate must have record of relevant teaching experience with outstanding evaluations; have demonstrated expertise and/or experience in Forensic Psychiatry; with an ability to function and lead multidisciplinary teams. In addition, there are opportunities to participate in clinical research activities with many resources to foster career development. The position includes an attractive compensation package based on qualifications and experience and composed primarily of the following sources:  salary, alternative funding plan, fee for service and academic support.  Relocation expenses may also be negotiable.

The successful candidate must have proven academic and clinical skills in Psychiatry with significant training and experience in forensic psychiatry.  Evidence of demonstrated excellence in education and a commitment to teaching including forensic sub-specialty residency training is required.  The Forensic Division encourages activities in clinical/service development, teaching, and research.  Leadership skills are a requirement to assist in strategic planning, capacity building and collaboration within teams, the department, and across the region.  The desired candidate will embrace evidence-based practice and will thrive in an environment of continuous learning and education. Knowledge of, and dedication to, a recovery-oriented treatment philosophy is required. The successful applicant will receive an initial three year limited term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Candidates must also be eligible for certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). Candidates with certification in Forensic Psychiatry or a plan to obtain this qualification are strongly preferred.

London is a medium-sized city (population 360,000) with the amenities of a large city and a small-town feel.  The regional catchment area population is approximately 1,500,000. Known as the Forest City because of its many trees, it is a short
