Senior Investigator, Physician with Hematology or Oncology Training

The Canadian Cancer Trials Group (CCTG) Operations and Statistical Centre (OSC), based at the Queen’s University Cancer Research Institute in Kingston, Ontario, is seeking a physician with demonstrated interest and experience in cancer therapy trials. CCTG is Canada’s largest academic cooperative group and conducts national and international trials, spanning phase I trials to large randomized controlled trials, testing novel agents, technologies and lifestyle interventions.

Senior investigators work with members of the investigational new drug and disease-specific and trial endpoint committees, which have national investigator leadership and membership, to develop and implement the CCTG clinical trials research agenda. Current priority areas of research are evaluating precision medicine and immuno-oncology approaches, and the development and inclusion of patient-focused and economic outcomes in trials. Senior investigator responsibilities include development and refinement of trial questions, oversight of trial development, conduct and analysis as part of the trial team, as well as developing scientific agendas and specific trials, securing funding and investigational agents via grants and contract agreements.

Candidates must have expertise in developing and leading a range of therapeutic trials; specific training and/or experience in clinical methodology related to clinical trials; an MD or equivalent; and eligibility for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Experience in overseeing multi-centre clinical trials in the areas of precision medicine, and/or immuno-oncology is an asset. Preference will be given to candidates that have completed specialty training in an oncology-related discipline (i.e., medical, pediatric or hematologic-oncology) and hold specialty certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the American Board of Specialties. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The potential for teaching and supervision of MD fellowships and/or graduate students should be demonstrated. Preference will be given to applicants who will contribute to education as part of their role description.

This will be a three-year Special Appointment in the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen’s University, renewable at three-year intervals. Academic rank and salary will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful applicant may also participate in providing outpatient oncology clinical care at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario/Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
