Full-time Office Based Rural Physician

Job Description:

Provide a full range of family medicine practice within the High Prairie Medical Clinic and Health Complex. Participate with the two other physicians in the establishment of chronic disease and chronic pain management treatment plans and care. Experience in geriatric medicine is an absolute requirement. This includes especially geriatric chronic disease (diabetes, COPD, obesity, hypertension, psychiatry)

Qualifications and Experience:  MD and full registration at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. at least 5 years experience in family medicine with extensive experience in geriatric medicine, adult and pediatric psychiatry, palliative care, and chronic disease, preferably in a leadership role. A physician with the comfort level to cover for complicated Internal medicine issues in patients in the absence of an internist would be given priority.  Must be willing and qualified to provide anesthetics. Must have current experience in accident and emergency medicine.  Must have up-to-date ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATLS and BLS.

Required: To live within the community of High Prairie in rural Alberta.

Compensation:  Fee for service with 25% overhead to the clinic.  Must pay own licensing, moving expenses, malpractice insurance, Alberta Medical Association fees, continuing medical education fees, disability and life insurance, and other professional fees.  After one year some of these fees may be reimbursed by a variety of Alberta Medical Association Program which are subject to change at any time.  

On Call Stipend - GP on Call: Physicians are remunerated for being on call in the Emergency Room. The rate is $23.11 an hour and is paid for a total of 14 hours on weekdays from 5 pm to 7am and 24 hours a day on weekends and statutory holidays. Frequency of on call shifts vary by community.
