Assistant Professor - Academic Neurologist with Expertise In Focused Ultrasound

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic Neurologist fulfilling the academic position description of Clinician Investigator. The candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship is a requirement for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Expected start date is January 1, 2019 or another mutually agreeable date thereafter.

We are seeking a physician who has advanced training in focused ultrasound for neurological applications. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a clinical research program studying the effects of focused ultrasound lesions for brain therapeutics as well as help contribute to projects involving opening of the blood-brain-barrier for therapy in a variety of neurological and psychiatric conditions including neurodegenerative disorders, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, and psychiatric disorders. The candidate will also cover shared general neurology call, inpatient consultation services, as well as manage outpatient clinical work. The primary language of work will be in English.

The successful candidate will have respective training suiting the academic position. Candidates will require advanced post-residency training in a defined area relevant to the proposed position. Preference will also be given to candidates with an interest and demonstrated excellence in academia, as demonstrated by success in obtaining peer reviewed funding, publications, presentations at conferences, awards and accolades The successful candidate will devote approximately 50% of their time to patient care and 50% to scholarly work in research.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; have or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology; and have or be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Estimated remuneration will be between the range of $200,000 - 400,000 per year (fee for service), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
