Associate Professor, Tenure

The Department of Radiology and the School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invite applications from outstanding candidates for the jointly appointed position of Associate Professor with tenure in the area of minimally invasive image-guided procedures (MIIP). This position will be based at Vancouver General Hospital Research Pavilion, and at the UBC Point Grey Campus.

The Faculties of Medicine and Applied Science have partnered to create the SBME, a new flagship entity at UBC, and a top strategic priority for the University and both Faculties. The SBME is a nucleus for education and training, research, and innovation in biomedical engineering, creating new knowledge, new academic and training programs, and fostering translation and innovation. The vision of the School is focused on building health from biology through a robust pipeline of efforts across scales from engineering the molecular structures to implementing novel community based healthcare solutions. The SBME faculty conduct research that advances our fundamental understanding human biology and that yields technologies and therapies that advance our health and wellbeing.

The UBC Department of Radiology is fortunate to have diverse teaching facilities associated with our Department, including Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), St Paul’s Hospital (SPH), UBC Hospital (UBCH), BC Children’s and Women’s Health Centre of BC (BCCH/BCCW), Royal Columbian Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, Royal Jubilee Hospital, Lions Gate Hospital, BC Cancer Agency-Vancouver Site and private clinics. The Department is the only academic Radiology Department in the province. It provides extensive teaching to medical students, radiology and nuclear medicine residents, radiology fellows, as well as residents in other specialties. Research mentoring and infrastructure is also provided, all in an atmosphere that is pure West Coast.

Applicants must hold a MD and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada, and be eligible for licensure to practice Interventional Radiology in the Province of British Columbia. The successful candidate will be expected to have an established and outstanding track record in academic and knowledge translation in MIIP, and show evidence of national and international collaboration. Experience in leading clinical trials and a proven track record in both academic and industry grant applications are requirements. Knowledge of nanotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device development and commercialization will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have recorded evidence of excellence in teaching and ability to direct graduate students, and sustained and productive scholarly activity.

The incumbent will have the opportunity to recruit undergraduate and graduate trainees in Radiology and the SBME. They will be expected to lead a translational research program at the interface of Radiology and Biomedical Engineering, and participate in graduate and undergraduate teaching.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
