The Tony Crolla Chair in Brain Tumour Research

Sunnybrook Research Institute (SRI) and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), in collaboration with the University of Toronto, seeks applications for a clinician scientist position funded by the endowed Tony Crolla Chair in Brain Tumour Research.

The successful candidate will work closely with SHSC and SRI faculty within both the Odette Cancer Program (OCC) and the Hurvitz Brain Sciences Program (HBSP). Activities within these multidisciplinary programs span the research continuum of basic scientific discovery, development of technological innovation, education, clinical translation and health policy and are fully integrated with SRI.

SRI is one of the fastest growing hospital-based research enterprises in Canada with well-established programs in discovery and applied research, developing innovations in care for more than 1 million patients annually. Conducting $100 million in research each year, is home to 1400 scientists, clinician scientists; research associates and more than 400 trainees, operating in ~500,000 sq.ft. of state of the art infrastructure

The successful candidate will focus on neuro-oncology research and build an internationally competitive and peer-review funded research program in any area of brain tumour research to contribute to the ongoing development of both personalized and ablative therapeutics within the OCC. The OCC neuro-oncology program is one of the largest mutli-disciplinary clinical and research programs in North America with expertise in neuro-radiology, radiation oncology, pathology, neurosurgery, and neuro-pathology. The successful candidate will enhance the neuro-oncology research platform through collaborations with the Labatt Brain Tumour Research Centre (LBTRC) at the Hospital for Sick Kids (HSC).

The successful candidate must hold an MD and either a MSc or PhD, and have certification in neurology or Medical Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, or equivalencies and be eligible for appointment in the division of Neurology. The candidate will be qualified to hold a full time clinical-academic appointment, with 75% protected time for research, at the University of Toronto, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the department of medicine.

The term of the appointment is five years and is renewable in accordance with Hospital and University policies.
