We are seeking an academic psychiatrist to work with our LHSC Adult Mental Health Care Program in the area of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry. LHSC is one of Canada’s largest acute care teaching hospitals and is a multi-site facility with a comprehensive array of medical, surgical and psychiatric services including regional services for critical care, trauma, transplant, and cancer care.  The Adult Mental Health Care Program has a large inpatient service with 110 adult acute care beds and a range of ambulatory services.  The Consultation Liaison Service provides consultation, collaborative care, and capacity building to the medical and surgical inpatient teams at LHSC’s two main campuses:  Victoria Hospital and University Hospital.  The Service works in an interdisciplinary model with Psychiatry, Psychology, and Nursing working collaboratively to meet the direct and indirect patient care needs.  The service prides itself on offering an excellent educational experience for the training of residents, medical students, and other health disciplines.  Psychiatrists working with the Consultation Liaison Service typically spend 40-60% of their clinical time working with the inpatient teams while the remaining time is spent in general psychiatry clinics or in subspecialty clinics in the areas of sleep medicine, neuropsychiatry, and psychosomatic medicine.  Academic psychiatrists are also expected to be actively involved in academic activity such as educational scholarship, research, quality improvement and program development. 

The successful applicant will receive an initial three year limited term clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). Candidates must also be eligible for certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada

The successful candidate must have proven academic and clinical skills in Psychiatry.  Evidence of previous experience working in Psychosomatic Medicine or Consultation Liaison Psychiatry is required and subspecialty training in this area is strongly preferred.  Evidence of demonstrated excellence in education and a commitment to teaching is required.  Leadership skills are a requirement to assist in strategic planning, capacity building and collaboration within teams, the department, and across the region.  The desired candidate will embrace evidence-based practice and will thrive in an environment of continuous learning and education. Remuneration for this position includes an attractive compensation package based on qualifications and experience and composed primarily of the following sources:  fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support. Relocation expenses may also be negotiable.

The Department of Psychiatry (http://www.schulich.uwo.ca/psychiatry/) is organized around four academic Divisions including General Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Forensic Psychiatry, as well as recognized Programs in Neuropsychiatry and Developmental Disabilities.
