Academic Palliative Care Medicine Physician

Queen’s University Department of Medicine, Division of Palliative Medicine, is seeking a qualified Palliative Consultant Physician to fulfill the role of Clinician-Scholar. The Division of Palliative Medicine at Queen’s University provides clinical care to a large catchment area with specialty clinics and has two active postgraduate training programs in palliative care, including the Royal College Subspecialty in Palliative Medicine (RCPSC-PM) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) Enhanced Skills Program in Palliative Care (CAC-PC).

In addition to a major focus of providing exemplary clinical service, the successful applicant must demonstrate strong potential for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level, engage in collaborative research and contribute to the administrative functions of the University and hospitals. The successful applicant must demonstrate strong leadership skills in an academic or hospital setting and would be expected to provide evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment, excellent communication skills and a strong academic portfolio. The successful applicant will work within an interdisciplinary team where duties include consultation and direct care of patients with complex palliative needs admitted to the Kingston Health Sciences Centre and outpatient palliative symptom management clinics for patients with both cancer and non-cancer illnesses. Experience in acute palliative care inpatient management and non-cancer palliative care symptom management is an asset. The applicant will participate in on-call services which include the follow-up and management of patients at KHSC, as well as patients in the community and admitted to the Palliative Care Unit at Providence Care Hospital. Protected research time would be considered for an appropriate candidate.

Candidates must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and be certified in consultant-level palliative medicine with an appropriate designation such as CAC-PC or Royal College Subspecialty. Preference will be given to those who either hold or are eligible for certification in Palliative Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
