The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the University Health Network (UHN) are seeking to recruit energetic and innovative physicians with expertise in Malignant Hematology including; Bone Marrow Transplant, Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma.  The anticipated start date is September 01, 2019, or shortly thereafter. 

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated passion for the medical care of cancer patients as well as a strong interest in teaching and/or quality improvement.  The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team in the management of patients with hematological malignancies within a comprehensive cancer centre setting and, will be expected to engage in clinical, translational, or basic research. Other responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The Malignant Hematology Program within the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the largest such program in Canada, and is among the largest in North America. Comprised of about thirty senior physicians, the Malignant Hematology Program is supported by outstanding institutional infrastructure including; hematopathology, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics programs and, by a wide medical and allied health multidisciplinary team.  The program supports extensive clinical, translational, and basic research initiatives including a large clinical trials program. Additionally, the Division of Medical Oncology and Hematology supports a comprehensive training program attracting both national and international fellows.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre includes the Ontario Cancer Institute (OCI), a world-class basic and translational research institute with particular strengths in Hematopoiesis, Immunology, Stem Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, and Cell Therapeutics. The close association between clinicians and scientists within the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and OCI provides the opportunity for collaborations on disease biology and the development of innovative and informative translational studies, allowing the applicant to achieve the goal of bench-to-bedside medicine. In addition, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre supports active and widely-recognized clinical trials and drug development programs, and maintains a state-of-the-art GMP cell processing facility. The Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is affiliated with the University of Toronto, which is world-recognized for programs in areas including Biochemistry, Immunology, Stem Cell Biology, Genomics, Proteomics, and Cell Processing, among others. Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is a teaching hospital, dedicated to educating the world’s future top cancer experts.  Our role as an internationally respected teaching hospital keeps us and our students abreast of the latest medical developments and the most advanced technology. 

The successful candidate must be eligible for a full time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher.  It is expected that the candidate will be hired into one of the University of Toronto Clinician Investigator, Clinician Scientist or Clinician Educator tracks.  The applicant must also have, or be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and hold MD and FRCPC qualifications as well as Clinical Hematology or Medical Oncology (or equivalent) specialist designation.  Academic rank, salary and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.  The successful candidate must be able to

function proficiently in English. Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimate based on fee-for-service billings and other sources of compensation) but will be in the usual range for an experienced Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant Physician in the Province of Ontario at approximately $300,000 to $365,000 per annum and commensurate with academic rank, qualifications, and experience. Signing bonuses and other opportunities are negotiable and determined on an individual basis. Health bene􀁾t options and plans are supplied per company policy. Candidate(s) may be reimbursed partial start-up costs with office expenses.
