Candidates must hold an MD or equivalent and be eligible for licensure in the Province of Ontario with certification in Psychiatry from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.

The applicant will have an interest in General Psychiatry a willingness to work in a dynamic team-based environment.  Potential candidates would have the opportunity to continue developing the Mental Health Care Program at STEGH. They would also collaborate with primary care, and participate in education and capacity building with community mental health care partners. The desired candidate will have the skills and expertise to contribute to a culture of continuous learning and education, along with evidence of impact in clinical innovation.

Mental health care across the Southwest is currently undergoing a transformation as services are divested from tertiary care to the community including general hospitals. St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital has completed the build of an acute care mental health suite in 2017. Concurrently the Southwest LHIN has embarked on a community capacity project to reinvest in mental health and addiction services across the region. These system changes, together with a vibrant active community hospital, provides for a rewarding and stimulating environment for pursuing a career in Psychiatry.

As a community training site, the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital participates in Distributed Education affiliated with Western University, providing educational opportunities for medical students and residents.
