Medical Geneticist

Effective July, 1, 2020 the Division of Clinical and metabolic genetics, Department of Paediatrics at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), 555 University Ave., Toronto, ON which is an academic health science centre dedicated to the care of children; affiliated with the University of Toronto is recruiting a full-time permanent  Medical Geneticist.

The Division of Clinical and Metabolic Genetics has a long tradition of excellence in clinical care, education and innovative research. Independent and collaborative clinical and basic research is performed by Division members. The Centre for Genetic Medicine and the Division are devoted to discovering new diagnostic and treatment options in children and have pioneered the use of whole genome sequencing testing to help diagnose paediatric health conditions, make better predictions of disease progression, and guide treatment choices. The Division hosts both residency and fellowship training programs which are fully accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists. The Division and the University of Toronto co-sponsor a M.Sc. Program for Genetic Counselling.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree, be certified by Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Medical Genetics and Genomics or have completed equivalent training. The candidate should have experience in genomic medicine and have demonstrated leadership and collaborative research skills. In addition, the candidate should be interested in the clinical evaluation of patients with a variety of genetic conditions and have experience in paediatric cancer genetics and cancer predisposition syndromes. Candidates with dual training in Genetics and Oncology will be strongly considered for this position and may be cross appointed in both Divisions. Candidates with a strong research portfolio will be considered for a clinician investigator position and an appointment at the Research Institute.

The successful candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Rank and salary ($210,000-280,000) per annum will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for a benefit package which includes medical, dental, life insurance, long term disability insurance, group insurance, pension plan, vision care, academic allowance, and a relocation package and may be eligible for mortgage assistance.  All candidates must be able to function proficiently in English.
