The Division of Neurosciences at Health Sciences North (HSNis actively recruiting one permanent full-time Neurosurgeon to join its current four member complement. Candidates who have a keen interest in affecting change within our dynamic health care system are encouraged to apply.

As the sole neurosurgery referral centre for the entire Northeastern Ontario region, HSN serves a catchment population of over 600,000 residents. This is an exceptional opportunity to become an integral part of a dedicated, collegial, and progressive group of community neurosurgeons.

The practice at HSN is one of general adult neurosurgery. Functional and pediatric neurosurgery are very rarely encountered. Neurosurgeons at HSN are expected to be capable of managing all other realms of general neurosurgery including cranial and peripheral nerve, but with an emphasis on spine. Etiologies would include trauma, neoplastic, congenital, infectious, degenerative, and CSF related.

Successful candidates will be expected to partake in the general neurosurgery on-call schedule. English language skills are required, French skills would be considered an asset. Inpatient services will be completed at the Health Sciences North main site (41 Ramsey Lake Rd, Sudbury, ON P3E 5J1). Candidates will be responsible for setting up any and all aspects related to their private practice (location to be determined). Candidates must have obtained or be eligible to obtain specialty certification in Neurosurgery and be eligible for a license to practice in Ontario.

Remuneration is competitive with other neurosurgical facilitates while providing ample opportunity for private office-based work. Average compensation is approximately $500,000 per year and is paid through an Alternate Payment Plan (APP).

All physicians are required to seek academic appointment at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (
NOSM), and become involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees. Academic work and research interests with the HSN Research Institute (HSNRI) are supported and encouraged.
