Facility Details — Penticton Regional Hospital:

The Penticton Regional Hospital (PRH) is a 155-bed Acute Care facility in the Okanagan Health Service Area and responsible for providing core medical and surgical specialty services to surrounding population of approximately 90,000 people.

PRH offers 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Acute Services, Ambulatory and Out-patient Clinics, and Diagnostic/Paramedical Services.

As a regional facility and secondary referral centre for the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valley, you will be joining an excellent complement of medical and surgical specialists. Excellent radiology availability with on site Computed Tomography (CT) and part time Medical Resonance Imaging (MRI). PRH has a seven-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

PRH also serves as the referral base for hematology/transfusion medicine for the smaller local hospitals in Oliver and Princeton.

In April 2019 PRH opened phase one of its new, state of the art Patient Care Tower. The Patient Care Tower includes a brand new ambulatory care centre, surgical services center, 84 medical/surgical inpatients beds in single patient rooms, a new medical device reprocessing unit and space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine Program. Phase two is now underway and will involve the renovation in the current hospital to allow the expansion of the emergency department four times its current size.

The PRH Department of Anaesthesiology is seeking a full time Anaesthetist who functions well in team setting to join our group of 8 dedicated Anesthesiologists. PRH currently offers three operating rooms and a urology procedure room to provide services for urology, ENT, general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, chronic pain and uncomplicated pediatric cases over 2 years. There are 2 ORs at the Summerland Health Centre where we provide services including pediatric dental.

Construction of the new 6 story David E Kampe patient care tower is underway at PRH and in addition to numerous improvements to patient care, will expand surgical services to 5 operating rooms, 3 minor procedure rooms, 2 endoscopy rooms, 1 cystoscopy room, PICC line/urodynamic room and infusion services. The brand new state of the art tower is expected to be ready for patients by spring 2019.

In this position you will also have the opportunity to discover the rewards of teaching. We are affiliated with the University of British Columbia’s Southern Medical program thus teaching and supervision of medical students and residents is expected. We currently teach 4th year Medical students (max 16 weeks per year) and occasionally 1 GP resident per month. Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Anaesthesia experience
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is mandatory

Call Schedule:

Compensation:

    • $350,000 - 400,000 plus MOCAP level 1
