Overall job purpose:
The Editorial Fellow position at the Canadian Medical Association Journal (CMAJ) is a one-year training position in which the incumbent receives general training in being a medical journal editor.
The Editorial Fellow must be physically in Ottawa for at least two thirds of the year (this requirement may be fully or partially waived for the 2021-2022 term as public health conditions and business needs dictate). The expected start date for the position is July 1, 2021.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop skills in critical appraisal and handling of research manuscripts
- Develop skills in commissioning, appraising, and editing non-research manuscripts
- Develop skills in communicating effectively with authors
- Learn skills in developing multimedia such as podcasts and videos
- Develop skills in writing news stories and blog posts related to medical and health care content
- Participate in regular team meetings and projects
- Attend training courses and conferences as directed and as relevant to training needs

- Skills in research critical appraisal and peer review an asset
Education:
- Requires completion of a medical degree
- Humanities education is an asset
- Post-graduate study in critical appraisal of research is desirable
Experience:
- Some experience in scientific research, medical education, writing, editing and/or multimedia communications is an asset
Other:
