Family Physician - Yellowknife

Are you ready for a Northern adventure? Do you want the option to practice urban, rural, and remote family medicine? Come and join our enthusiastic and collaborative integrated primary care teams and provide outstanding care to the residents of the Northwest Territories and surrounding remote communities.

Why the Northwest Territories?

Located above the 60th parallel, the Northwest Territories awaits with seemingly endless lakes and unmatched vistas. The opportunities available in our communities are perfect for the outdoor enthusiast looking for adventure, a healthy work/life balance, and an escape from the hustle of the big city.

Home to the capital city of the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife is a captivating mix of city life and untamed wilderness. Fully stocked with the essential businesses and services of a southern city, Yellowknife is also home to a vibrant art community, world famous fish shacks, and our iconic houseboats of the Great Slave Lake.

About the Work

The successful incumbent will be working in multidisciplinary primary care teams located in one of our two clinics; Yellowknife Primary Care Clinic and Frame Lake Community Health Clinic. Our family practitioners have the option to focus work solely in primary care or to have a broader scope by also working in services such as hospital acute care, obstetrics, hospitalist medicine, and other specialized services out of the new Stanton Territorial Hospital.

Travel clinics are an important part of the practice and are typically 1-3 days in length depending on the location. These clinics bring you throughout the communities surrounding Yellowknife, where you experience the indigenous cultures of the Dene, Inuit, and Metis nations. The NWT is leading the country in cultural competency and cultural safety training for our practitioners for better patient care. We are also employing technology to push the boundaries on how we can provide the best virtual care to our communities.

Yellowknife is the newest University of Alberta family medicine residency training site as of 2020, allowing our practitioners to help train the next generation of family physicians.

Our vibrant and collegial groups (specialists as well as primary care) of physicians are looking forward to having you on our team!

Typically these positions require CCFP certification. ACLS and ATLS or evidence of equivalent training and skills are required and candidates must be eligible for licensure to practice in the Northwest Territories.
