Neonatologist

Neonatologist
Full-time – Janeway Children’s Hospital
Eastern Health | St. John’s, NL

The Women and Child’s Health Program at Eastern Health invites expressions of interest for a Neonatologist with the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Janeway Children’s Hospital, St. John’s, NL Canada.

The NICU at the Janeway Children’s Health Centre is the only level III NICU for the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  With over 300 admission per year, the Janeway provides a range of tertiary Neonatology services with the support of a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Associates.  It is a combined Level II / III 25 bed unit with the ability to provide high frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide and therapeutic hypothermia.  Our patient population is varied and includes extremely preterm infants as well as infants with surgical conditions.  There is also an active neonatal transport team which transports sick neonates under the medical direction of the neonatologist.

The Neonatologist will have clinical service and on-call responsibilities and will join a group of three other neonatologists.  The Neonatologists also provide telephone and telehealth advice to family physicians and pediatricians regarding neonatal care and arranging transport as necessary in addition to research and administrative work for the unit.  The Janeway is a teaching hospital affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador (MUNL) and has a residency program in Pediatrics and successful candidates will be involved in medical student and resident teaching.

Through strong formal affiliations with Memorial University, and on the recommendation of the Discipline Chair, the successful candidates may be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment in the Academic Department of Pediatrics and may be expected to participate in collaborative research activities and scholarship (ie: teaching).

Newfoundland is an island in the North Atlantic, with a temperate climate, rugged coastlines, abundant unspoiled wilderness minutes from the City and very short commutes with almost everything within a 20 minute drive from the hospital.  The Province has excellent public health policies resulting in very low COVID numbers with the ability to rapidly halt community spread and with very high vaccination uptake.

To be considered candidates must hold a MD and have certification by the Royal College Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Certification (or equivalent) in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.  All applicants must be eligible for licensure to practice by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of NL.

Salary and benefits for this position are to be paid in accordance with an Alternate Payment Plan (APP).
