Clinical Academic Position – Neurologist/Epileptologist


The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a full-time Epileptologist/Neurologist. The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Scientist at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor/MD in a limited term (Clinical Academic) appointment.

The Epilepsy program in London, Ontario is one of the largest and most comprehensive in Canada. It has an 11-bed epilepsy monitoring unit, with capability to do intracranial recordings, both SEEG and subdural. Excellent support in terms of advanced imaging, neuropsychological services and neurosurgery is available. An average of 120 epilepsy surgery procedures are performed per year. The Epilepsy Program is considered a "Regional Epilepsy Surgery Centre of Excellence" by the Province of Ontario and serves as referral for most of southwestern Ontario as well as other regions of the Province. In addition, referrals are also received from outside of Ontario. Active areas of research include imaging, epidemiology, neurophysiology, and clinical trials. There is a solid and fluid relationship with the imaging laboratories at the Robarts Research Institute and the Brain and Mind Institute, as well as potential collaborations with basic science and other specialties at Western University.

The successful candidate is expected to be a contributing member of the Epilepsy Program. Clinical work will include inpatient epilepsy monitoring and outpatient clinics. In addition, he/she will have demonstrated experience in academic medicine, scholarship and excellence in clinical or basic science research and a demonstrated aptitude for teaching at the graduate level; including co-supervising Master’s, PhD, and Postdoctoral students. Candidates should have a proven ability in research, evidenced by an established record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and holding national and/or international grant funding. Preference will be given to candidates who have at least two years of fellowship training in Epilepsy, hold a PhD in Epidemiology or Medical Imaging, and/or have a minimum of two years’ clinical experience managing complex epilepsy patients.

Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.
