POSITION SUMMARY

In partnership with other members of the medical staff, the hospitalist will provide care for designated hospital in-patients. They may be most responsible physician (MRP) for these patients or involved in concurrent care along with one of the specialists. The hospitalists will work with the multidisciplinary team to provide care and services at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital (OSMH) in accordance with accepted and evolving standards of clinical practice. They will utilize excellent diagnostic and therapeutic skills for the assessment and management of a wide range of medical conditions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:  The primary responsibility is for the provision of the highest quality of medical care; utilizing the resources of OSMH in a prudent manner, and working within their scope of training, experience and skill level.  The hospitalist will be responsible for: Providing MRP coverage for designated in-patients (designated patients are “unattached”- out of area or not currently enrolled with a physician or group that does inpatient care).  Providing concurrent care when requested by a specialist based on complexity. Participating in the provision of 24/7 coverage with the other hospitalists. Communicating effectively with other members of the care team and the other hospitalists in order to facilitate transfer of patient care.  Participating in the multidisciplinary approach to clinical utilization. Actively participate as a preceptor for medical trainees to develop inpatient acute care skills.

AVAILABILITY: Must be able to work a full seven day or a split week (model TBD), providing 24x7x365 coverage for the defined population of inpatients. Must dedicate the work day to hospital work and expect to have a census of approximately 20 patients (appropriate census and over-census procedures to be negotiated).

REMUNERATION: Fee for service plus hospital stipend.

QUALIFICATIONS: College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) unrestricted license that allows the physician to fulfil the requirements of this position. Certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. ACLS training. Applicant must be eligible for appointment to the Credentialed Staff at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
