The Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) is a provincial agency who are on a mission to support rural Alberta communities in their efforts to keep healthcare close to home. Established in 1991 by the Government of Alberta as the Alberta Rural Physician Action Plan, and originally focused on supporting practicing rural physicians, RhPAP has grown to be a broader rural community health workforce attraction and retention resource, an ally with Alberta’s medical schools, as well as a trusted, collaborative partner for rural Alberta communities trying to achieve greater access to health care. RhPAP is an independent, non-profit organization funded by the Alberta Ministry of Health.

Based in Edmonton, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable to the Rural Health Professions Action Plan (RhPAP) Board and provides overall leadership to RhPAP. The CEO works closely with the Board to set strategic direction and implement the Strategic Business Plan to allow the organization to fulfill its mandate to ensure rural Albertan communities have the appropriate health workforce to effectively deliver the health services they need to thrive.

The CEO is the senior most Executive and this position has overall responsibility for the efficient and effective functioning of the organization and direct oversight of all aspects of RhPAP. This position also ensures that resources are properly managed and RhPAP hires and retains the best staff in an effort to achieve organizational goals and employee excellence and engagement. 

The CEO liaises or has contact with, for the completion of assigned duties and responsibilities most frequently with the Board of Directors, RhPAP Staff and Associates and key external stakeholders.

The CEO is an excellent communicator who is committed and has a “big picture” perspective and continuously emphasizes the broader vision and applies a comprehensive understanding of the RhPAP business plan to establish and drive the organization’s agenda.

As the successful candidate, you will have extensive executive level experience in managing staff as a clinical and/or administrative leader in addition to a proven track record of leading business operations including human resources, financial and legal functions. Understanding of rural clinical settings is an asset.
