Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in Toronto, Canada, a fully affiliated academic Health Sciences facility of the University of Toronto, is inviting applications for its new Chief of the Veterans Program.  The successful candidate will lead a dynamic, inter-professional team that is continuing to improve the quality of care and the patient and family experience, within a highly academic environment. Sunnybrook has maintained an impressive legacy of caring for Canada’s Veterans for the past 75 years.  The Veterans Program at Sunnybrook has been hailed as a Canadian flagship for Veterans care, providing the highest quality of interprofessional, person-centred care and enabling extraordinary quality of life for Veterans as they age.  The Veterans Program has 434 beds, including 202 Complex Continuing Care beds, 56 Palliative Care beds and 176 federally funded nursing home beds.  The Veterans Program also has leadership for Palliative Care service integration across Sunnybrook, and a dynamic group of palliative providers supporting service in acute and outpatient areas. With one of the largest cancer centres in Canada and as a partner of the North Toronto Ontario Health Team caring for north Toronto’s aging population, Sunnybrook’s need for palliative care has grown significantly over the past five years.  As a home, we have a uniquely supportive environment of specialized care for when it matters most. As a regional hub, we provide short term support and guidance to sustain health, recover from acute health decline, and be supported in their goals for living well. The preferred candidate will have certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent qualifications, and be eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The successful candidate will have the vision to advance integration with the Sunnybrook strategic directions; commitment to forging partnerships with the many communities we serve to support the development of integrated delivery systems; experience working in diverse populations; values inclusiveness, equity and diversity; strong leadership capabilities, the ability to mentor trainees and faculty at all stages of career; as well as a record of peer-reviewed research, of leadership in undergraduate, postgraduate, continuing medical education or patient education; and/or leadership in model service delivery as a creative professional academic activity.
