ACADEMIC POSITION – Bone Marrow Transplant / Cellular therapy

The Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre are seeking a Hematologist with at least one years’ experience in Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular therapy for a full-time academic appointment to Western University.  The successful candidate will have undertaken formal training and experience in the area of stem cell transplantation including allogeneic, autologous and haploidentical and in the area of cellular therapies, including Chimeric antigen receptor T-Cells (CAR-T) and Bispecific T-cell engagers (BiTEs).  The candidate will fill a clinical academic role and is expected to have a strong interest and a proven track record in clinical and/or translational research related to Stem Cell Transplant and cell therapies.  Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Hematology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a limited term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience.  Information about the Department of Medicine and Division of Hematology may be found at:  Medicine - Western University (uwo.ca)

The Division of Hematology currently has 16 members and is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally.  The Division’s physicians provide the whole range of hematologic services including all malignant hematology (leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma), thrombosis and hemophilia services as well as laboratory service in Southwestern Ontario and beyond.  The Division has a fully certified Royal College Subspecialty Training Program in the Department of Medicine.

The successful candidate will join a busy academic practice within an expanding stem cell transplant program in Southwestern Ontario serving a population of 1.5 million.  The stem cell transplant program is currently ongoing a major expansion and is expected to double in size within the next 3 to 5 years.  A main mandate will be to develop a program of cell therapy in order to eventually implement these rapidly evolving treatments at our center.  The successful candidate will also be expected to support the management of patients with acute leukemia and complex malignant conditions, work with other team members in this area, and contribute to the general hematology activities of the division.  The successful candidate will have a strong, demonstrated record of research and publication and will be expected to maintain and support ongoing divisional research activities.  The successful candidate will also have a commitment to and demonstrated aptitude for teaching, and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of a competitive alternative funding and payment plan, and academic salary.
