Clinic Details — Kootenay Lake Hospital:

Kootenay Lake Hospital (KLH) is a 30-bed community hospital providing high quality health care services to residents and visitors of Nelson and the surrounding area of approximately 28,000 people. KLH has the busiest maternity services in the region with a very active integrated maternal/child health program including obstetric/gynecology and pediatric specialist support. In addition, KLH offers specialty clinics such as Healthy Heart, diabetes education, oncology and liver clinics as well as cardiac lab with stress testing, echocardiography and Holter monitoring.

Practice Details:

Fantastic opportunity to craft half of your practice (.50FTE) as a General Practioner in Oncology (GPO), working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team in an expanding, evolving, dynamic learning environment and innovative model of care that incorporates virtual technology.

You will primarily work at Kootenay Lake Hospital, yet be affiliated and collaborate with a group of approximately 5 other GPO’s within the Kootenay Boundary region. The successful candidate will be a physician with compassionate instincts who engages people in a deep meaningful way and enjoys working in a collaborative care team that is committed to excellence.

The applicant must be a General Practioner in Oncology (GPO) or a General Practioner open to completing the Enhanced Skills Oncology training (the Department is willing to support the development of the successful applicant). Interior Health is committed to the vision of improving access to services in collaboration with BC Cancer Agency, enhancing the continuum of cancer care throughout the Kootenay Boundary Region. As a GPO, you will provide medical care to patients which includes, but is not limited to; diagnostic procedures, implementation, management and monitoring of treatment plans as well as pain and symptom management.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for The College of Family Physicians of Canada Cert. (CCFP)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC
  •  Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m
  • On call requirements: There is no on-call service or evening work associated with this role

  • Rural Incentives include:
    • Recruitment incentive: $15,000 if full time.
    • Relocation: $9,000 - $15,000 (based on move location)
    • Fee Premium: 11.48%
    • Annual retention fee: $ 13,215.12
    • CME funding: Up to 2 years $440, in 3rd & 4th year $2,640, after 4 years $4,840
    • Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may be eligible for loan forgiveness programs.
