Based in Edmonton, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is the most senior physician in the organization and a member of the Executive Leadership Team, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The CMO provides executive leadership to the Medical Affairs portfolio and is responsible for ensuring medical services are provided in accordance with Covenant’s mission, vision, values, and ethical guidelines.  The CMO is also accountable to partner with other Executive Leaders to create organizational strategy, and through a dyad partnership with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), provides strategic leadership to clinical operations in the provision of high quality, patient and resident focused care and services.

The CMO is responsible for ensuring medical services are clearly aligned with provincial and organizational priorities and ensures high quality delivery across the organization. In addition, the CMO builds and fosters excellent working relationships with physician leaders across Alberta and ensures effective liaison between Covenant Medical Affairs and AHS Medical Affairs.

As the successful candidate, you will be an established, credible leader in the health services delivery sector; a licensed physician in good standing with a strong clinical background and demonstrated administrative leadership skills; and a strong understanding of Canadian healthcare. You will be a visionary leader who inspires and motivates the entire organization both in urban and rural communities while being an advocate for Covenant in the health sector. With political acumen, and exceptional verbal and written communication skills, you will be comfortable in identifying and approaching individuals in Government, Alberta Health Services, and other stakeholders, to build and maintain effective relationships. Covenant Health will give consideration to applicants who would like to maintain their clinical practice, with the expectation that the CMO will work a minimum of 0.75 FTE.
