General Academic Paediatrician (Child Maltreatment and Neglect)
CLINICAL ACADEMIC POSITION – GENERAL ACADEMIC PAEDIATRICIAN

The Department of Paediatrics, Children's Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is seeking an Academic Paediatrician with expertise in the area of Child Maltreatment and Neglect. The Section of Child and Youth Maltreatment at Children’s Hospital, LHSC is currently composed of two part-time paediatricians, who provide consultation for child maltreatment for both Children’s Hospital and distributed sites across Southwestern Ontario. The Section falls under the Division of Academic Paediatrics, with a Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU) which provides a comprehensive in-patient service to a population of about 1.5 million in southwestern Ontario, as well as an expanding range of ambulatory clinics. The Division works closely with our subspecialty colleagues in a collaborative manner, in both clinical and research endeavours. The Division is central to the undergraduate and postgraduate training program at Western University, with key leadership positions in education currently being held by General Academic Paediatric faculty.

Candidates for this position must have an MD or equivalent degree and must be eligible for licensing in the Province of Ontario. Subspecialty certification in Paediatrics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent is required. Diploma from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics would be an asset, though not essential. The successful candidate will be a clinical academic paediatrician, and hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, depending upon qualifications and experience at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must have experience in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics. Ideally, the candidate will also have experience in the care of acutely ill children, and will be expected to provide contribute to the CTU inpatient and on call service. However, candidates with additional areas of clinical and/or academic expertise outside of the area of inpatient pediatrics are encouraged to apply, with strength of experience in Child Maltreatment Pediatrics being a priority. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in academic medicine, the ability to collaborate effectively with all other members of the health care team and office staff, and will be expected to participate in team-based health care and teaching, at the undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development levels. The candidate will be committed to contributing to the academic deliverables of both the section and the division, including continuing medical education and research.
Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of an alternative funding plan and academic salary. The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2022, although an alternate start date may be negotiated.
