Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist

Our client, the Child and Parent Resource Institute (CPRI), is an organization directly operated by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services providing trauma-informed and highly specialized treatment and targeted intervention services for children and youth in Ontario with complex combinations of special needs.  These complex and long-standing combinations of mental health difficulties and/or developmental challenges significantly impact functioning in multiple areas such as home, school, and community and appropriate community interventions have not produced the desired responses.  These needs include severe behavioural and emotional challenges, developmental disabilities, autism, and mental health.  Services are provided through both residential and outpatient interdisciplinary teams.

CPRI utilizes trauma-informed care as an organizational model that is consistent with CPRI's vision for child and youth developmental and mental health care whereby providers of care consider the biopsychosocial perspective.  Through this model, a trauma-sensitive culture that promotes healing for children, youth, and families is created.

CPRI is seeking a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to provide psychiatry residential and outpatient services.  Residential care includes a large inter-disciplinary team consisting of psychiatry, psychology, social work, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, paediatrician, nursing, child/youth workers.  Teams use evidence-informed clinical approaches in supporting children/youth which is individualized and trauma-informed.  Length of service is typically up to 12 weeks with a focus on interdisciplinary assessment, strategy development to manage challenging behaviours and medication management as indicated.

Outpatient services aim to provide tertiary level consultation / intervention for children/youth to community referring physicians.  The provision of psychiatric services can utilize a hybrid model of virtual and in-person care.  On-call responsibilities are shared amongst the psychiatrists.

CPRI has five residential units providing services for children and youth age 6 up to age 18 experiencing complex and often co-occurring combinations of developmental and mental health challenges.  Units are organized by patient variables such as gender, age and primary mental health or developmental disability presentation.

The successful candidate will possess or be eligible for an FRCPC in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry or equivalent, or an FRCPC in Psychiatry and possess experience in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, and be eligible for Ontario licensure.  The ideal candidate will have experience in evidence-informed psychopharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions and work very well on an interdisciplinary team utilizing a trauma-informed approach within a patient/family-centred model of care.

This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits through the Ontario Public Service (OPS).  Offering great flexibility and work/life balance, the position includes a very attractive salary and compensation package including pension plan and a very collegial, supportive team environment.  The position provides remuneration that is negotiated through collective agreements that exist within the OPS and is competitive with similar positions elsewhere.  This includes a comprehensive benefits package, 5 weeks paid vacation, 2 weeks educational time, annual financial support for professional fees and educational costs.
