Clinical Academic Position – Neurologist (Neuromuscular Specialist)

The Department of Clinical Neurological Sciences at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a full-time Neurologist/Neuromuscular Specialist. The candidate will fill a clinical academic role as a Clinician Researcher at Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Neurology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for independent licensure as a physician in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a limited term (renewable) academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Western University delivers an academic experience second to none. The Neuromuscular program specializes in the diagnosis and management of patients with neuromuscular diseases, including diseases of the anterior horn cell or motor neuron, peripheral nerves, neuromuscular junction and muscle. The group works closely with the EMG Laboratory, which studies over 3,500 patients a year. Active areas of research include Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Neuropathy, Myotonic Dystrophy, and Myasthenia Gravis. Within the group, sub-specialists manage each of these disease groups. The Neuromuscular group is specifically interested in a candidate with clinical expertise and a research focus in peripheral neuropathies, including inflammatory (GBS, CIDP) and hereditary neuropathies. The successful candidate will have a record of proven ability or significant potential to lead an independent career in research and a commitment to, and demonstrated aptitude for teaching at the graduate level; including residents, fellows, co-supervising Master’s, PhD, and Postdoctoral students. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed at least one year of post-doctoral fellowship subspecialty training in Neuromuscular Disease, have a strong interest in peripheral nerve disorders, and have obtained or are willing to obtain EMG Certification with the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (CSCN). The successful candidate is expected to be a contributing member of the Neuromuscular Program and Division of Neurology including on call responsibilities for general neurology and stroke. Clinical work will include supervision of the clinical teaching unit (general and stroke), ambulatory care, and supervising the EMG Laboratory, including the supervision of technologists and trainees. In addition, he/she will have demonstrated experience in academic medicine, scholarship and excellence in clinical or basic science research. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternative funding plan and academic support.
