The Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are seeking to recruit a qualified academic geriatrician. The successful candidate would fulfil the academic position description of a Clinician in Quality and Innovation, or a Clinician Teacher. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The expected start date is July 2022, or a mutually agreed upon date. The successful candidate will hold an MD degree and have, or be eligible for, certification in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The successful candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine.

For the Clinician in Quality and Innovation position, academic interest in quality and innovation will be demonstrated by advanced training and specialization in quality improvement and innovation. Excellence will be assessed by successful quality improvement initiatives, evidence of practice innovations, publications in leading journals, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades. This position will support the needs in quality and innovation in the diverse geriatric medicine clinical practice settings including both inpatient and outpatient venues across the campuses at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. A history of developing collaborative partnerships related to quality and innovation with various health care teams, organizations and community agencies will also be an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the University of Toronto as appropriate.


For the Clinician Teacher academic position, the successful candidate must have demonstrated clinical excellence in geriatric medicine. Teaching expertise will be measured by excellent evaluations in medical student, resident, subspecialty resident and allied health education, as well as formal training in teaching methodology. This position will support educational needs in the diverse geriatric medicine clinical practice settings including both inpatient and outpatient venues across the campuses at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in addition to participating fully in the educational programs of the Division of  Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto. Participation in clinical research and quality improvement programs as appropriate would be an asset.

The successful candidate will report to the Head, Division of Geriatric Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The Division of Geriatric Medicine is currently composed of 4 full time academic geriatricians and several clinical associates and has an outstanding reputation in clinical research, education and knowledge translation.

Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $350,000 (fee for service/alternate funding plan estimate) commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience and we expect the candidate to be eligible for the Ontario Geriatric Medicine AFP.  The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
