Applications are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Queen’s University and Kingston Health Sciences Centre, which is a fully affiliated teaching hospital with two sites and a Research Institute. We are searching for an academic physician with proven administrative experience and leadership skills who, as Head, will draw on strong interpersonal and organizational skills to develop and manage teams that will foster excellence in patient care, teaching and research within the Department and the region.
Qualified applicants will hold an MD degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for licensure in Ontario and must have an FRCSC/FRCPC or equivalent. The successful applicant will hold a Geographically Full-Time academic appointment at Queen’s University, which will be funded by the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization (SEAMO). Preference will be given to applicants with at least 10 years’ experience, proven leadership abilities and research success; however, all applicants with a desire to lead a cohesive and growing academic department are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will participate in shared Ophthalmology clinical care services.
The Department of Ophthalmology has a record of leadership and excellence in research, education, and clinical care. In a short period of time, the Department has experienced significant increases in peer-reviewed funding from competitive granting agencies, increases in the number of residents being trained as well as the training they receive, and a quadrupling of clinical volumes to nearly 80,000 patient visits per year.
