Clinic Details — Royal Inland Hospital:

The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) is a 258-bed facility that serves as the referral centre for approximately 250,000 people, and is located in the Thompson Cariboo Shuswap Health Service Area. As one of two Interior Health tertiary referral hospitals, RIH is a no refusal centre with an Emergency Department that receives over 250 major trauma and 72,000 visits per year.

Kamloops offers high-level, specialty medical care including core physician specialties, 24-hour Emergency and Trauma Services, Ambulatory and Outpatient Clinics, and Diagnostic Services Support services including: a full complement of diagnostic equipment, a Clinical Neurophysiology Lab and Sleep Lab, 1.5T MRI, two CT scans, and Echocardiography. RIH also features, Stroke Thrombolysis, and provincial Tertiary Neuropsychiatry Programs. RIH is the regional base for the six-person, 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) that is utilized in remote emergency transport situations. Surgical services include General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, Otolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and 24/7 Anesthesia coverage.

Practice Details:

2 practice settings! A very unique position for a general adult Psychiatrist to join the expanding Psychiatry department at Royal Inland Hospital and also the renowned Hillside Acute Psychiatric Centre. Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) - Adult Psychiatrist .6 FTE in combination with the .4 Hillside Center position.

Work within a culture of teamwork while delivering excellence in care! Our group of Psychiatrists provides a variety of services from which to choose, including service to RIH’s 26 bed inpatient unit, consults to the medical/surgical units and the emergency department, as well as participating in a community based practice through the Community Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) clinic. Community-based programs include Early Psychosis Intervention, Treatment Support and Rehabilitation, Counselling, Seniors Mental Health, Intake/Access, Rural Telehealth, Intensive Case Management, ACT, and Substance Use. Community practice includes patient assessment and treatment, collaboration with clinicians and managers, and assistance with the development and maintenance of appropriate programs, policies, and procedures.

This role also offers teaching opportunities to medical students and residents as RIH is affiliated with UBC Faculty of Medicine Southern Medical Program. Hillside Psychiatric Center –.4 FTE in combination with the .6 RIH position.

The 44 bed facility houses regional adult and geriatric as well as provincial neuropsychiatry program. An acute tertiary psychiatric center- the Hillside Center is a regional center that services the entire Interior Health Authority. The Center opened 15 yrs ago and services both adults and elderly patients with acute illness and/or severely dysfunctional behaviours that need special care beyond what is available in communities. The focus for patients is on diagnosis and stabilization with rehabilitation strategies for reintegration back into their communities.

The Hillside Center is a unique complex – one of a kind in BC. Multi disciplinary type of work in teams including: Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychiatrists, neurologists. This role is a collaborative approach with multiple partners including Interior Health and the BC Ministry of Health.Important to most interested candidates is that this opportunity is a position that would normally only reside within an Academic Center. Very rich academic driven program-not normally available outside of major metropolitan cities. Additional access to several academic opportunities, including but not limited to teaching residents/students/fellows. Ample and diverse opportunity for research. Interest in Neuro Psychiatry is an asset. The Hillside Center is located on the Royal Inland Hospital campus- proximity to the hospital is walking distance.

Qualifications:

  • Eligible for Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC)
  • Doctorate in Medicine
  • Eligible for licensure with CPSBC.
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association is mandatory

Call Schedule:

  • Hours of work: Full Time
  • On call requirements: 1:10

Compensation:

  • Payment Structure: Fee for Service + MOCAP Level 2
  • Estimated Gross Income: $300,000 - $400,000/yr plus MOCAP Level 2

Additional Incentives

  • Relocation Assistance: $9,000 -$15,000
