The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Stroke Neurologist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.

The Division of Neurology is a leading Canadian center for neurological care and research. The Division includes 34 full time members with active programs in Stroke, Movement Disorders, Epilepsy, MS, Cognitive disorders and Neuromuscular diseases including ALS. The Division has an active residency program and has close ties to the University of Alberta Neurosciences and Mental Health Institute, a translational research collaborative. The Division is a leading provider of cutting edge Stroke care in the province of Alberta.

The successful candidate will be an MD with certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). The successful candidate will provide clinical care for patients, and will participate in other clinical and academic activities of the Neurology division. He/she will assume accountability and oversight for the care delivered to Neurological patients including those suffering from Stroke. The individual will also be expected to promote research, teaching and quality improvement initiatives related to Neurosciences and Stroke.

The position will be accountable to the Director, Division of Neurology and Edmonton Zone Neurosciences Lead, as well as the Director of the Stroke Program.

Key accountabilities and requirements of the Stroke neurologist will include, but will not be limited to direct inpatient and outpatient care, teaching of residents and fellows, medical students and other undergraduates. Build close relationships leading and working in multidisciplinary teams, work close to the Neurosciences and Mental Health Institute and participation in Divisional, Departmental and University activities.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Service Program (AMHSP. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
