Hospitalist in Oncology/Malignant Hematology position


The London Regional Cancer Program at London Health Sciences Centre is seeking a Hospital Medicine Specialist with a focus in Oncology with experience in the care of hospitalized patients to provide inpatient clinical services. The successful candidate will care for patients with complex hematological malignancies including, but not limited to, acute leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma and bone marrow transplant. Previous experience caring for hematology patients is an asset but is not required.

The candidate will fill a clinical role and is expected to function as the responsible physician for these patients during their hospital stay, provide general medical care, and develop management plans in coordination with the Hematology faculty members. Applicants should be certified in Family Medicine by the College of Family Physicians of Canada and demonstrate training in Hospital Medicine through a formal program, or should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Hematology or Internal Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for unrestricted licensure in the Province of Ontario.

The successful candidate will join the Oncology service at the London Health Sciences Center which is the referral center for complex hematology patients in Southwestern Ontario serving a population of 1.5 million. The center has a full range of consultative services and Hematology-Oncology consultants are available for oncology care issues. The successful candidate will provide general medical care for hospitalized patients in coordination with the faculty members at the Division of Hematology. The successful candidate will be responsible for admissions from the Emergency room and the Oncology Day Unit. This position involves regular daytime hours with no night or weekend call duties, or outpatient responsibilities. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment with opportunities to participate in educational activities such as journal clubs, Grand Rounds as well as disease-site specific workshops and educational retreats.

Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance, qualifications, including qualifications which go beyond the requirements for the position, and experience.

Compensation for this position will be composed of a competitive daily sessional fee with a proportion of OHIP fee for service billings to be retained by the successful candidate. The position will be available for 1 year after which it will be renewable, pending performance assessment.
