Requirements

We are recruiting Emergency Medicine and Family Medicine/EM Locum Physicians for immediate and future vacancies in the Northwest Territories (NWT) from April 2022 onward.

 

​The successful incumbent will be working in the Stanton Territorial Hospital Emergency Department. The new hospital, which opened its doors in May 2019, is the referral centre for the Northwest Territories, has a population catchment of nearly 50,000 people, and sees 19,000 emergency department visits a year.

 

Emergency Physicians can work exclusively in the ER or combine their ER work with another service such as hospitalist, clinic, or community practice. Emergency shifts are 8 hours for day and evenings, and 9 hours for nights.

 

Typically, these positions require CCFP-EM certification, however, CCFP certified physicians with appropriate and recent Emergency experience will be evaluated and considered. ACLS and ATLS or evidence of equivalent training and skills are required, and candidates must be eligible for licensure to practice in the Northwest Territories.

NWT offers competitive compensation packages for one-week locums consisting of 6 shifts or a combination of 2 days, 2 evenings and 2 nights at a rate of $1878-2114 per shift.

 

8-hour Day Shift, 07:00 – 15:00

8-hour Evening shift, 14:00 – 22:00

9-hour Night Shift, 22:00 – 07:00

 

Locums are paid a daily rate, travel days, and your travel and accommodation are provided at no cost.

Licensing & Credentialing

Not licensed yet: NWT licensing and credentialing procedures takes 4-8 weeks to complete and is quite similar to other jurisdictions. Initial licensing fee is $323 and $215 for each subsequent year of renewal. Support provided.
