Cardiologists (2)

Across our three hospitals and eight satellite sites, Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is shaping the future of care. Our many programs and services are designed around the needs of one of Canada’s most vibrant and diverse communities. We are home to North America’s largest nephrology program, as well as the designated cardiac care and spine centre for Scarborough and surrounding communities to the east. We are proud to be a community-affiliated teaching site for the University of Toronto and partner with a number of other universities and colleges, helping to train the next generation of health care professionals.

The regional Cardiac Care Program includes state-of-the-art imaging services (including advanced echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT), Cardio-Oncology, interventional cardiology, interventional electrophysiology, and cardiac rehabilitation. The successful applicant will join a regional cardiac care program at SHN, which includes 29 cardiologists of various specialties, and currently serves a large multicultural region within the Greater Toronto Area. Clinical responsibilities will include in- and outpatient cardiology, cardiac diagnostic testing, as well as participation in heart failure clinics.

We are looking for 2 cardiologists with strong clinical skills to work a minimum of 6-8 weeks per year in the Coronary Care Unit at Centenary Hospital. We have a very busy STEMI program with over 450 STEMI cases per year and many complex patients with cardiogenic shock and post cardiac arrest. There would be an opportunity to help develop a Pulmonary Artery catheter program and help foster further advancements for the management of the patient with cardiogenic shock in conjunction with the ICU. There is an opportunity for a joint appointment with the Department of Critical Care if a formal Critical Care fellowship has been completed.

The successful candidate must be eligible for independent practice licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, possess RCPSC certification in Internal Medicine, fellowship certification in Cardiology, and CCS Level 2 training. Training in Heart Failure and/or Critical Care would be an asset but not a requirement. Recent experience in residency or recent work experience in a coronary intensive care unit would be advantageous. Emphasis will be placed on candidates possessing strong communication skills and progressive leadership skills with experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
