ACADEMIC POSITION – Clinician Teacher

The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University and London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre are seeking a Gastroenterologist for fulltime Clinical Teacher or Clinical Researcher academic appointment to Western University.

The Division of Gastroenterology currently has 19 fulltime members and is well-recognized and respected both nationally and internationally.  The Division’s physicians provide a wide variety of Subspecialty outpatient GI care and endoscopic procedures across all 3 hospitals in London, Ontario.  Inpatient Gastroenterology consultation and procedures are provided at both LHSC sites and there is a GI-CTU at University Hospital.  The Division has particular expertise in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Transplant Hepatology, Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy, Nutrition and Motility.  The Division is active in research including basic science, translational and clinical research.  The Division has a fully certified Royal College Subspecialty Gastroenterology Training Program in the Department of Medicine currently with 10 Gastroenterology residents.  Well-established Fellowship programs in Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Transplant Hepatology, Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy and Motility are also offered.

The successful candidate is expected to have completed training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.  Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, in Gastroenterology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent.  Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) in the province of Ontario.  The successful candidate will hold a limited term academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, or a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience.  Information about the Department of Medicine and Division of Gastroenterology may be found at: Medicine - Western University (uwo.ca)

The successful candidate will have a busy outpatient Gastroenterology practice.  The candidate will also take part in the inpatient Gastroenterology consult service and participate in our citywide on-call schedule.  Academically, the candidate is expected to have a significant contribution to medical education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The successful candidate will provide demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate levels.  Depending on the candidate’s experience and interests, there will be opportunity for the development of a research career and involvement in quality improvement initiatives.

Consideration of applicants will include an assessment of previous academic performance, qualifications, including qualifications which go beyond the requirements for the position, and experience.  Compensation for this position will be commensurate with academic qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of a competitive alternative funding and payment plan, and academic salary.
