One provincial approach to plan and deliver health-care services will provide you with a more consistent experience overall.  This is a multi-year journey, requiring the support and involvement of patients, health care providers and partners across the health system.

The SHA serves a provincial population of 1.14 million, with infrastructure and services that consists of 64 hospitals with 2,500 acute care patient beds and approximately 9,000 long term care beds. The SHA provides provincially coordinated quality, patient-centered services, such as Acute hospital-based care, Long Term Care, Mental Health and Addiction Services, Primary Health Care, Public Health, and many other community-based clinical programs designed to promote and maintain health of the population.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is a key leader in Saskatchewan health care, partnering with system leaders to achieve our province’s health care goals.  Reporting to a committed Board of Directors, and working closely with the Deputy Minister of Health, the CEO is accountable for providing strategic and operational leadership of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), subject to the provisions of the Provincial Health Authority Act.  Operating in a complex and dynamic healthcare environment, this collegial and motivational leader will support the Board in fulfilling its governance role while implementing the strategic plan and directives, along with providing direction to the organization’s vision, mission, and values.  Demonstrating an advanced knowledge of financial management practices and budgeting processes, the CEO will ensure the management and administration of all health services and programs.

As a champion of Patient- and Family-Centred Care, the CEO will be knowledgeable regarding government processes and requirements to ensure the organization is compliant with all relevant legislation and other directives as outlined in the SHA Governance Framework.  The CEO will ensure the Board, Ministers of Health, and Deputy Minister of Health are informed of all emergent issues in an appropriate and timely manner.  As an exceptional communicator and visionary, the CEO will build and champion the SHA brand and reputation to build trust and confidence, while demonstrating the highest level of leadership effectiveness consistent with the LEADS in a Caring Environment Framework capabilities. 

Leading from an open and transparent perspective, the CEO will demonstrate a commitment to a diverse, culturally competent, and culturally safe health system and representative workforce.  As a team leader, the CEO will foster a positive, engaged and learning culture at the SHA, and will motivate, inspire, and empower SHA employees to perform their greatest potential within the organization.  This individual will champion health care sustainability by encouraging innovation, best practice, and collaboration, and work closely with others to enhance the SHA’s reputation for excellence in care, research and education, and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

The successful candidate will possess a Masters-level degree in Health/Public/Business Administration, Medical Degree, Healthcare Professional or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate has a minimum of fifteen years in Health Care Management/Administration with at least five years as a senior executive in a health care environment, and extensive knowledge of the healthcare system in Canada. Recognized as an exceptional communicator, this leader has proven experience engaging community and building trust and strategic partnerships with government, Physicians, unions, academic institutions, interprovincial/external relationships, professional associations and other health care organizations.  With an authentic and demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion practices and Indigenous engagement, the CEO will demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting a respectful workplace by supporting Patient- and Family-Centered engagement and care in all that they do.
