The Department of Internal Medicine, Max Rady College of Medicine, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba, Shared Health Manitoba, and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority Cardiac Sciences Program invite applications for an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist in the Section of Cardiology. 

This is a geographical, full-time, contingent position commencing July 1, 2023 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a term of 2 years, renewable upon favourable review.  Salary and rank will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.  

This is an academic position with substantial cardiac resources within the region, primarily at two academic health centres (St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre), serving the needs of Manitoba, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario, with a catchment of over 1.3 million population.  The advanced heart failure and cardiac transplant team is located at St. Boniface Hospital. There is a dedicated inpatient advanced heart failure service providing consultation and care to pre and post-transplant patients, ventricular assist device, and emergent mechanical circulatory support cases including ECMO. The outpatient heart failure clinic is a shared practice model including physicians, nurses, and nurse practitioners responsible for 400 new patients and over 1700 follow-up visits per year. The heart failure program has a clinical and research database which includes 4500 patients to date. The team actively enrolls in clinical trials and is recognized nationally in the heart failure community.

There are presently 29 full-time academic cardiologists within the Section of Cardiology with major clinical and investigative responsibilities in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, echocardiography, cardiac computed tomography and magnetic resonance, nuclear cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, and heart failure and cardiac transplantation.

The successful applicant will have academic potential, including demonstration of effective interdisciplinary communication, a record of prior training in heart failure, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplant, as well as competency in general cardiology. They must also have clinical and teaching skills to further the aims of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in cardiology.

Candidates must have senior specialty qualifications in Adult Cardiology in the country of current practice and must be eligible for registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.  Certification in Adult Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is preferred.
