The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Department of Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Division of Cardiac Anesthesia, at SickKids Hospital is seeking to recruit an Academic Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiologist. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant/Associate/Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The candidate must also meet the criteria for appointment to the title of Clinician-Scientist/Investigator/Educator/Teacher/Administrator as described by the University of Toronto Temerty Faculty of Medicine. This position is expected to start October - December of 2022.

The successful candidate must hold an MD (or equivalent), a strong clinical/educational background, with advanced fellowship training in pediatric anesthesia as well as pediatric cardiac anesthesia. The successful candidate will deliver clinical pediatric cardiac anesthesia services and is expected to complement the Department’s academic, educational and research productivity and will be expected to develop an academic plan with clear deliverables at the 1, 3 and 5 year marks.  In addition, the successful applicant must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.  Candidates must be able to function proficiently in English, and obtain an appropriate visa, if applicable.

Dedicated exclusively to children and their families, SickKids Hospital is a world-renowned, state-of-the-art pediatric health care facility affiliated with the University of Toronto, performing over 22,000 procedures on children annually. This includes the daily operation of two pediatric cardiac operating rooms and two pediatric cardiac catherization facilities, with intermittent involvement in adult congenital cardiac surgery at the adjacent University Hospital and pediatric cardiac patients for non-cardiac surgery. The hospital is committed to ongoing clinical care, research, learning and development, and features a caring and supportive work environment. The Division of Cardiac Anesthesia is comprised of 9 cardiac anesthesiologists, providing perioperative care for neonates and children with acquired and congenital heart disease. The Division is an integral component of The Labatt Family Heart Centre.

Remuneration will be competitive with other academic pediatric anesthesia positions in Canada, with a salary range of $265,000-$416,000 per year to which will be added an equal distribution of billing overages.
