General Practitioner Oncologist

The Division of Family Medicine at Quinte Health Care (QHC) Belleville General Hospital (BGH) is seeking a General Practitioner Oncologist (GPO) to join team in one of Canada’s most desirable communities!

QHC is seeking a part-time (0.2 FTE) GPO to work 1 day per week and to join the Division of Family Medicine at BGH.  GPO’s will work collaboratively to provide services in the Oncology Clinic at BGH.

The GPO will provide services as per Cancer Care Ontario guidelines, together with a dedicated group of nurses and other allied healthcare workers. Oncologist support will be readily available at the Oncology Clinic. The GPO will provide outpatient care as a consultant to the MRP for oncology patients at QHC. Outpatient work includes, but is not limited to, full assessment of patients, and supervision of appropriate diagnostic and systemic treatment plans, assessment of follow-up patients, and initiation of appropriate tests and investigations when indicated as per CCO guidelines.

As a GPO at QHC your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing continuum of specialized care for low risk cancer patients on pre-planned systemic treatment in the adjuvant or metastatic setting
  • Assuming primary role in active surveillance of patients post-treatment as per CCO guidelines
  • Organize appropriate tests, investigations and referrals as primary responsible physician for cancer management in collaboration with Oncologists
  • Become knowledgeable in managing toxicities specific to low risk cancer treatments
  • Manage palliative patients in collaboration with community services

Call is not a requirement of this position. Remuneration is Fee for Service.

The successful candidate will have an independent license from CPSO. Experience caring for oncology or palliative patients would be considered an asset.

The City of Belleville Family Physician Recruitment Program offers medical students up to $150,000 in return for a five-year commitment of full-time service to a community practice and hospital work is encouraged.
