GENERAL PEDIATRICIAN DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS, WINDSOR REGIONAL HOSPITAL

The Department of Pediatrics at Windsor Regional Hospital (WRH) invites applications for full- time and locum Pediatricians to join its General Pediatric program and a dedicated multidisciplinary team of subspecialists, nurses, and allied health professionals.

The Department of Pediatrics at WRH houses both a Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), which provides a comprehensive in-patient service to a population of about 400,000 in Windsor and Essex County of South Western Ontario, as well as a range of ambulatory clinics. The 16- bedded CTU provides acute care for children with a wide variety of general pediatric conditions, including admissions locally from the Emergency Department, transfers from other hospitals within the region, as well as from the 22-bed Level 2C Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The ambulatory clinics, consisting of both general pediatric and subspecialty services, see around 10,000 clinic visits in a year. However, children needing pediatric intensive care and general surgery services are referred to regional tertiary children’s hospitals in London or Detroit.

Recognizing the growing needs of the region, the Department of Pediatrics is in the process of drafting an ambitious expansion plan which will coincide with a major reform of the Windsor- Essex Hospitals System and the construction of a state-of-the-art acute care hospital by the end of this decade (https://www.wrh.on.ca/AbouttheProject).

In addition, Windsor is the site for one of the two campuses of the MD program (38 students/year) and one of two CTUs of the Pediatric Residency program of Schulich Medicine, Western University (www.schulich.uwo.ca). The members of the General Pediatric program also work closely with members of the NICU program, Family medicine, Emergency, Obstetrics & Gynecology in clinical, teaching, and quality improvement activities.

The successful candidates will have experience in the family-integrated care of acutely ill children and will be expected to contribute to the CTU on-call service, as well as ambulatory clinics. They will help foster an environment that supports patient safety, quality improvement research, and innovation. To support our educational mission, the successful candidate will actively contribute to educational, and scholarly activities while serving as a role model for our undergraduate medical students and pediatric residents. They will be eligible to apply for a part- time appointment at Schulich Medicine, Western University (www.schulich.uwo.ca) and also cross-appointment at the Faculty of Science, University of Windsor (www.uwindsor.ca).
