Family Physicians

In partnership with Inner City Health Associates (ICHA) and Shepherd Village Retirement Home, Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is shaping the future of care by creating a new and innovative primary care service designed around the needs of Scarborough, one of Canada’s most vibrant and diverse communities. SHN, ICHA and Shepherd Village have developed a unique and exciting collaborative program to provide excellent primary care for vulnerable and complex client populations. 

The program consists of two components that offer the successful candidates valuable experience serving different target populations in very different practice settings.  The SHN Primary Care Clinic will be located at the Shepherd Village Retirement Home to provide primary health services to the residents and staff of Shepherd Village and individuals residing in the surrounding community. The clinic is located next to busy Agincourt Mall.  Successful candidates will establish a comprehensive family medicine practice with access to a wide-range of subspecialists at SHN. Incentives will include subsidized overhead and staffing support. Physicians in this new role will also spend part of their time supporting ICHA primary care clinics which take place at a number of shelter sites in Scarborough.  They will be supported by ICHA’s wide network of outreach specialists with virtual office administrative supports. Compensation will be from the following sources: Fee for service (OHIP billings) and sessionals (ICHA). 

We are looking for 2 Family Medicine Physicians with an interest in providing primary care for seniors, children, adults, women, LGBT+ and vulnerable complex patients.  Priority will be given to candidates with a special interest in community and transitional primary care and/or population health, health equity and with a diversity focus. Additional opportunities to participate in resident teaching, research, and community activities can also be explored. Together, we are proud to be a teaching site for the University of Toronto and partner with a number of other universities and colleges, helping to train the next generation of health care professionals.  

Successful candidates must be licensed, or eligible for a license, to practice in Ontario with accreditation in Family Medicine by The College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP). They will also be required to apply for an appointment in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Courtesy privileges at SHN.  Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to inter-professional care are essential.
