The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University, London Health Sciences Centre, Children’s
Hospital at LHSC and St Joseph’s Health Care London invite applications/ nominations for the position
Chair/Chief for the Department of Paediatrics.
The Department of Paediatrics is building on a strong foundation of established academic and clinical programs,
and expanding through the recruitment of several talented paediatric academic clinicians and through the
development of a new institutional structure for Children’s Hospital. The Department has strong undergraduate
and postgraduate educational programs that are advantaged by strong, effective regional educational and
clinical partnerships. The Department is actively engaged in research in close affiliation with Children’s Health
Research Institute, Lawson Health Research Institute, and other departments in Schulich Medicine & Dentistry
and other faculties at Western University, Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, Thames Valley
Children’s Centre and Child and Parent Resource Institute. The Department also benefits from significant
support from the Children’s Health Foundation, our primary local children’s health fundraising organization.
A talented Paediatrician is being sought to capitalize on this unique transformational opportunity to lead the
Department of Paediatrics into its next phase of academic and clinical excellence. The new Chair/Chief will
have demonstrated academic excellence based on productivity and impact in research or education combined
with a strong track record of leadership resulting in effective transformative change. They will commit to the
primary goal of harnessing the considerable energy, passion, expertise, and potential present to elevate the
Department’s collective academic performance. Applicants will be evaluated on their approach to successfully
achieving impactful change. In particular, they will need to exhibit core qualities including integrity and
effectiveness as a mentor, communicator, advocate and negotiator for children’s health and clinical services.
They should model a progressive leadership style that fosters a culture of respect, equity and inclusivity; and
they should demonstrate the ability to build a strong leadership team and to effectively delegate responsibilities.
The new Chair/Chief the is expected to be involved with the Executive Leadership Committee of London Health
Sciences Centre, where they will participate in developing and implementing hospital strategies, and participate
in Master planning. The Chair/Chief will commit to ensuring delivery of the highest quality of care, granting
annual privileges and monitoring the code of conduct for all its members. They will work closely with President
of the Children’s Hospital in advocating for and optimizing Paediatric resources, and building regional
partnerships leading to the provision of better integrated care for children in Southwestern region of Ontario.

The successful candidate must be an accomplished clinician with an MD or equivalent, be eligible to be certified
as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligible for licensure in the
Province of Ontario. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and will be composed
primarily of the following sources: fee for service, alternate funding plan and academic support. The successful
candidate will hold a full-time continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full
Professor. The position will have an initial 5-year term, normally renewable once and is subject to a mid-term
review. Academic rank will be based on qualifications and experience.
