Role

As a Medical Consultant for Alberta Health, you will provide expert medical advice and recommendations on a wide range of complex clinical, operational and policy issues to key partners by drawing on your own extensive clinical experience with direct patient care, team-based care and management of health care systems.

Contributing to the establishment of Alberta Health’s priorities and standards, you will assist in guiding clinical and health system initiatives and provide pragmatic acute care, community care and continuing care perspectives to decision makers. Core responsibilities include addressing physician-specific issues that affect the health system, advising on physician claims for payment, providing expert advice on physician compensation, and advising on Out-of-Country and Out-of-Province applications, investigations and medical management proposed for specific patients. 

Your knowledge of evidence based clinical practice guidelines, systems thinking and focus on innovation will be instrumental in improving Alberta’s health system. As a member of the Executive Team, you will lead key projects and represent the Department on Ministry as well as federal/ provincial/ Territorial committees. While this position is formally located within the Health Insurance Programs Branch team of Alberta Health, you will be asked to support other teams across Alberta Health with your medical expertise when the need arises. 

Qualifications

Your background includes extensive medical expertise demonstrated at the local, provincial and national levels including a broad knowledge of Alberta’s health system.  You have experience in clinical medicine combined with regional medical management and/or a medical association. You are known as a transformational leader and have superior analytical and communication skills.  Your knowledge of emerging clinical and medical issues and strategies will be key to your success in this role. You excel at stakeholder engagement and have a proven track record of fostering effective relationships and partnerships within the health community.  A degree in medicine and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta are required.  

Salary

$8,620.69 - 12,260.54 bi-weekly ($225,000 - $320,000 annually)

Temporary, full-time contract (up to 5 Year Term).
