Academic Neurologist with expertise in Stroke Medicine

The Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, in conjunction with the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic neurologist fulfilling the academic position description of Clinician Teacher. The candidate should be eligible for an appointment at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. Advanced training and evidence of scholarship is a requirement for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Expected start date is January 1 2023.

We are seeking a physician who has advanced training in stroke that can provide expertise for significant care needs in stroke, and related neurovascular conditions. TPA and neurological input to endovascular therapies would occur on call. Stroke ward management would be expected. Outpatient stroke care would also be part of the position. Experience in neurocritical care related to neurovascular disease would be an asset. Advanced training in education would be an asset to develop new curricula and advance the educational experience of trainees. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significant clinical activities to support a successful academic team program in stroke including at least 3-4 overnight stroke calls per month. The candidate will also cover shared General Neurology call, inpatient consultation services, as well as manage outpatient clinical work. The primary language of work will be in English.

The successful candidate must hold an MD degree; have or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Neurology; and have or be eligible for licensure to practice from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will also have respective training suiting the academic position. Candidates will require advanced  training post-residency in a defined area relevant to the proposed position. The successful candidate will devote approximately 80-90% of their time to patient care and 10-20% to teaching and the support of education initiatives in the stroke program. The successful candidate will be evaluated by key stakeholders including students, team members, hospital administration, and education leadership. Appropriate training and demonstrated educational scholarship may lead to further opportunities in education.

Estimated remuneration will be between the range of $200,000 - 400,000 per year (fee for service), commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be eligible for membership in the Sunnybrook Department of Medicine Association through which clinical billings and benefits will be administered. The candidate will be able to participate in the department’s group medical, dental and life insurance benefit plans.
