CHU Sainte-Justine is looking for a clinical and academic leader for the position of head of the Pediatric Emergency Department. Do you have a solid clinical record of practice in emergency medicine and a keen interest in teaching and research? Overview

CHU Sainte-Justine is Canada’s largest mother and child centre and one of the four largest pediatric hospitals in North America. Its Pediatric Emergency Department has a province-wide pediatric mandate and treats over 80,000 patients each year. The Department has 23 pediatric emergency physicians on staff and over 15 specialists, including pediatricians, emergency physicians and family physicians.

Challenges

As the head of the Pediatric Emergency Department, you will be responsible for managing the clinical and academic activities within the department. You will also help to manage a residency program in pediatric emergency medicine in close collaboration with the hospital’s teaching division and the Université de Montréal. Like many of your future colleagues, you will have the opportunity to work at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Centre, one of the most innovative in the country.

The term of the position is 4 years (renewable once) and will ideally start in December 2022.

  • A senior expert in emergency pediatrics

  • Skilful at coordinating the medical, academic and research activities of a department
  • Recognized by peers with a provincial, national and international reputation (ideally)
  • Focused on quality of care, efficiency and clinical relevance

Job requirements

  • Pediatric emergency medicine certification
  • Meets university requirements for appointment as associate professor or tenured professor
  • University research and teaching experience
  • Leadership, communication and management skills
  • Experience in academic management (major asset)
  • Able to develop a team culture based on performance, relevance and competence, as well as on monitoring tools (dashboards, performance indicators)
  • Solid academic record
  • Excellent knowledge of the French language
  • Functional command of English
